There are a number of different ways that you can receive tutoring. We hope that you will take advantage of as many options as possible!
OPTION 1: Under the No Child Left Behind (NCLB), if you’re attending a third-year failing school and are enrolled in the free- or reduced-lunch program, then you qualify for free tutoring called Supplemental Education Services (SES). This tutoring must be provided outside of regular school, and you can choose between one-on-one or group tutoring. For the 2013-2014 school year, LAUSD will NOT be offering SES tutoring. However, other school districts may have it, so be sure to ask your school counselor!
OPTION 2: Foster youth ages 10-18 who live in Los Angeles County are also eligible for free, in-home tutoring through Foster Youth Services. Please call (562) 922-6234 for more information.
OPTION 3: DCFS Education and Mentoring Section at (562) 345-6727 or http://dcfs.co.la.ca.us/edu/freetutoring/flctp.html: They can help connect you to free or low-cost tutoring in your area!
OPTION 4: There are many community organizations, churches, and schools that provide after-school and weekend tutoring for youth who want to learn more, need help, or are struggling.
